Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college-educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Since its founding, more than 300,000 women have joined the organization. The organization is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college-educated women. The sorority currently has over 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Republic of Korea, the Arabian Gulf, Southern Africa and West Africa.
The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust:
• Economic Development
• Educational Development
• International Awareness and Involvement
• Physical and Mental Health
• Political Awareness and Involvement

BLAAC was chartered on January 30, 2000 by 13 dedicated, elegant and college-educated black women of the Bayou Lafourche Area who wanted to make a difference in their community. Thus, BLAAC became the 36th Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in Louisiana and the 933rd chapter in the world. The Bayou Lafourche Area Alumnae Chapter serves the following areas: Assumption, Lafourche, & Terrebonne Parishes. BLAAC remains committed to Delta's traditions of Sisterhood, Scholarship & Service and strives toward making a difference in our communities through volunteer advocacy, public service and social action.
The Charter Members for Bayou Lafourche Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority are: Pamela Alcorn, Angela Alexander, Ida Bush, Vanessa Draper-Harris, Chandra Gibson, Cynthia Lee, Meisca Moore, Shannon Rhodes, Lisa Southall, Frances Stevenson, Gwendolyn Streams, Mildred Sylvester, & Beatrice Wallace.
The Red Couch Series is BLAAC's virtual series in which we invite guest to have open dialog about any of Delta's Five Point Thrust. The main focus has been Physical and Mental Health.
Our members participate in voter registration drives across BLAAC's service area.
Our communities have several individuals who need or want help. We work to assist these individuals by providing services to the people who are most in need.
